I've found a solution. Right click the omnibox, and click "Edit search engines". Change your default search engine to something else, e.g. Bing or Yahoo. Whatever you want. Now delete all the Google entries in the "Default search settings" box.

Now, scroll down a little until you see a box with "Add a new search engine". Write down Google and google.com in the first two boxes respectively and in the URL box copy and paste this URL: "http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%s"

Without the quotes. Now mark it as the default search engine. You're done.
